Dobwalls by-pass

Aesthetic

The Dobwalls by-pass incorporated not only aggregates from Lantoom Quarry but also some rustic walling stone. The picture of the right showcases the small walling stone which has been used to face the gabion baskets. Our gabion stone was used as the back-fill. A common practice with gabion baskets is to backfill with an aggregate such as our 50-200mm gabion fill and face with a gabion facing material such as our small walling stone.

Functional

The by-pass made use of: Lantoom's class A hardcore, medium walling stone, small walling stone and large hedging stone (Cornish hedging stone). Lantoom Quarry supplied the products mentioned above to this multi-million pound road scheme to by-pass the village of Dobwalls. The scheme formed part of the A38 Trunk Road under the control of the Highways Agency. 40,000 Cubic Metres of Class A Hardcore provided by Lantoom Quarry was used for earthworks to form the road foundations. Medium walling stone was used for wall construction at Looe Mills and was also used to face Havett Bridge, to the North of Dobwalls (as seen in the picture on the left).

  • Small walling stone (loose)

Our hand selected small walling stone is suitable for constructing masonry walls with mortar. Typically this Cornish stone would be used to face a wall that had been constructed from concrete blocks. It can also be used as facing stone for use in gabion baskets. These small walling stones are hand selected from Lantoom Quarry and are not cut to size. This gives a more random and traditional look compared to walls built from our sawn stone products. As one of our photos show, Cornish stone is great for incorporating into brickwork to create a really eye catching natural stone design.
