Devon stone

Devonian slate

Lantoom stone is geologically described as a Devonian slate and similar geology is found from North Cornwall, through to Torbay in South Devon. The same geology is found around the fringes of Dartmoor. Therefore although the use of the geological term "Devonian" refers to a geological age, "Devon stone" can be found throughout this geographical area.

Devon stone is a brown coloured slate which is grey when sawn. Lantoom stone has exactly these properties. Lantoom stone is very commonly used throughout south and west Devon. Whenever a Devon stone is required, Lantoom stone is suitable. Traditionally Devon stone was used for building walls and hedges and Lantoom stone is ideal for use where a new building or extension requires the use of Devon stone.
