Archeologists survey quarry

This week we have archeologists undertaking a geo-physical survey of parts of Lantoom Quarryin Cornwall.  There are using equipment which detects magnetic anomolies beneath the earths surface, similar to that used on the TV show Time Team.

The work is being done in areas of the quarry which we plan to excavate for stone extraction in the future.  The idea is that if the geo-physical scan indicates the presence something that may be of acheological interest it can be investigated further and recorded before quarry work begins in that area.

It is unlikely that we will find the buried remains of the real Camelot:  Similar work carried out near the quarry when the Dobwalls by-pass scheme was surveyed didn't find anything worth conducting further investigations before the new road was built.  We do know they will find something though:  Part of the survey area has a sewer pipe that connects Dobwalls to the sewerage treatment works at Liskeard, so that should show up on the results.
