Gabion Stone

  

 

Gabion baskets filled with stone are a quick and inexpensive  method of constructing a retaining wall. They can also be used for sea walls and river walls

 

We offer three types of stone suitable for filling gabion baskets:

 

Option 1 - Faced with Small Walling Stone

 

 

  

 

 

Small walling stone can be used to face gabion baskets.  Small walling stone is a hand selected stone that has a bed depth of 100-200mm.  It covers approx 3M2 per 3 M2 per tonne and is used to build up a face on the gabion basket, with the unseen part of the basket filled with another filler material (e.g our 100mm graded stone).  These two pictures show its use as retaining walls in a Trunk Road scheme.

 

 Option 2 - Gabion basket filled with 100mm graded stone

 

 

 

In this option the whole basket is filled with 100mm graded Lantoom Stone.  This provides a strong and economical wall with the attractive colours of Lantom Stone showing on the face of the wall.  A 1 Cubic Metregabion basket requires approximately 1.5 Tonnes of stone.

 

 

 

 

 

This option uses a 200mm graded Lantoom stone.  It is half-way between the first two options with a graded 200mm Lantoom Stone being used to fill the basket.  The larger stones require building into the basket instead of being shovelled or tipped in.The picture on the left above shows the stone built into a gabion basket, the picture on the right shows the stone in a stockpile.
