Devon Long House

Location - Dartmoor, Devon, UK

Customer - Private client

Project type - Residential building restoration

Materials used - Granite

This devon longhouse, in the middle of Darmoor National Park, was extensively restored by our client.  The centre piece of the restoration project was to replace the main entrance with an oak front door complete with a traditional Dartmoor granite door surround.  There are no working quarries on Dartmoor, so instead Lantoom Quarry supplied this new door surround which has blended superbly with the dartmoor granite from which the house is constructed to create a stunning entrance to the property.

The client provided drawings which included a routered detail.  The inside of the door surround was shaped to allow the oak door frame to be set into it.  The whole thing was supplied in three sections and we also supplied the front door step.

We also supplied additional granite lintels and window sills

The client used recycled granite from demolition works on site in this case, but Caradon Quarry hammered granite would have been an excellent match for the existing stonework, had it have been required.
