Archeologists survey quarry

This week we have archeologists undertaking a geo-physical survey of parts of Lantoom Quarryin Cornwall.  There are using equipment which detects magnetic anomolies beneath the earths surface, similar to that used on the TV show Time Team.

The work is being done in areas of the quarry which we plan to excavate for stone extraction in the future.  The idea is that if the geo-physical scan indicates the presence something that may be of acheological interest it can be investigated further and recorded before quarry work begins in that area.

It is unlikely that we will find the buried remains of the real Camelot:  Similar work carried out near the quarry when the Dobwalls by-pass scheme was surveyed didn't find anything worth conducting further investigations before the new road was built.  We do know they will find something though:  Part of the survey area has a sewer pipe that connects Dobwalls to the sewerage treatment works at Liskeard, so that should show up on the results.

Lantoom helps Rotarians raise Thousands

Lantoom Quarry have received thanks from the Rotary Club of Looe Valley for providing stone for the construction of a new Wishing Well which is being built in the centre of Looe.

The old well raised in excess of £1000 annually for the Rotary Club which was used to support a variety of charitable causes. The Club hopes the new well will be equally successful.

Rotary Club Secretary Philip Evans wrote to Lantoom thanking them for their support saying that the Club hopes that the well will be completed in the next couple of weeks but even in its unfinished state it looks splendid and is receiving very favourable comments.

Speaking for Lantoom, Director Richard Crocker said, “Lantoom Quarry is delighted to help the Rotary Club in this way. Its nice to be associated with a project that will keep bringing in money for good causes year after year.” The new wishing well is located on Fore Street in East Looe.

Noise survey completed

Last week we completed noise surveys at three locations near Lantoom Quarry. The surveys took place over a four day period including two normal working days and a Saturday and Sunday. The days also recorded noise levels over varying weather conditions.

Automated noise measuring and recording equipment was placed at the three nearest residential properties to Lantoom Quarry in three different directions.

The objective of this work was to provide data to enable us to calculate the effect of future working of the quarry. This will enable our operations to be designed to ensure that they will not create any noise related problems for neighbours as the quarry develops.
